The Secret on my lap

Its been a year now since I have the secret book with me, but I haven't really been practicing the fundamentals to make it work. But I shall. Every morning I will walk to the bus stop and say thanks to everything I have in this world and be grateful for all the little things that makes me human and imperfect so that I can be a better person. I will smile to every living thing I see, even flowers on the side of the street, or even the weed that has the ball of puff waiting to fly. I will cherish every second I have with people around me, I will compliment them every day, I will make myself feel nourished and blissed by making all the people around me happy, I will speak from my heart, honest and truthfully, I will let no trouble worries me or take control of my mind. As I am the master of my mind.
Don't drag the small stuffs its only small stuffs. You dont have to make a big deal out of a small thing. Its a waste of energy time and emotions. Put your heart out there and build a solid circle of love.

I want to share with you what Ive been thinking about the secret book.

Taken from The Secret Book,

"John Assaraf

Knowing the law of attraction, I wanted to really put it to use and to see what would happen. In 1995 I started to create something called a Vision Board, where i take something that I want to achieve, or something that I want to attract, like a car or a watch or the soul mate of my dreas, and I put a picture of what I want up on this board. Every day I would sit in my office and I would look up at this board and I would start to visualise. I would really get into the state of having already acquired it. "

The paragraph above shows that he takes the power of imagination and put it in his mind. He plants the seeds to the coming future.

I am planning to draw myself as a successful entrepreneur, with people who loves doing what they do surrounding me, (my staff or families) surrounded by all the natural beauty in the world, with a rainbow splashed on the background, and a big white building bearing my name on the top having a connection with unicef, and building a new society that has good ethics and respect to the nature and mother earth and also respect to the living beings on it. Also my life is about sharing the profits of my venture with everyone who deserves it. I should draw them too.

And as a lesson to myself, I have to change the cassete in my radio that has been rewinding itself and playing the same negative comments every so often. I learnt that from my teacher, Esther lee, who is teaching me about sewing, business and just simply life experiences.

A Quote from Albert Einstein, (1879-1955)

"Imagination is everything. it is the preview of life's coming attractions."

Pattern Drafting 101

Pattern Drafting. Why would you want to do Pattern Drafting?

In my case, I have wanted to do a lot of designs and styles that aren't available for me, for my size and in the fabrics that and which will complement my figure. I can understand a lot of people in my shoes will agree that they can never get what they want from retail shops unless they get it altered, buy their own fabrics and pay for a tailor to get it made.

All and all, in the end, your money goes out more than buying retail garments. To start off with pattern drafting, you will have to have at least a novice in sewing, as you will understand that making a pattern you must understand the sewing process as well. Even if you draw the greatest fashion drawing in the world, you won't be able to produce a 3D garment without sewing it up and without learning how to manipulate a paper to turn it into a shape. That is what Pattern Drafting is all about.

Making Patterns to form a Garment.

I have recently started my Pattern Drafting classes. A month ago, and today was my second class. First you must start off with a basic skirt pattern and manipulating it into different designs.

1) Basic Skirt Block

A Block is a basic pattern tool that you use to trace onto another piece of paper and re-design or re-define a pattern with a style you choose. But you can't just whip it up like magic, you got to learn the ways. So the way is to use a Pattern Drafting Textbook. I use the one written by author Helen Armstrong.

2) Slashing process

The Slashing process is diminishing the darts in a skirt to create flare. At the end of the point of a dart, peak of the triangular part is where you draw a line downwards and do the same to the other darts if it apply. IF more flare is needed you can also slash a line from hem up to waistline in between the darts or beside them. Besides that, slashing process can also be done diagonally. This will be explained later when we gone through the basics.

3) Half Size

I'm intrigued on what Half Size is, aren't you? Half Size is actually a mock-up/prototype pattern of any garments done to see how the styles look. In all the Pattern Drafting process, the cheapest option for money time fabric is to do a half size sample. It will show you how you can achieve what you want by doing a mock-up in half sizes.

IT's a lot of fun and you will enjoy doing them.

4) Practice & Experiment

Reading through the Helen Armstrong Pattern Drafting book, Just copy the pictures by reading the instructions on the page and using your own eyes and approximation on how it looks copy them on a paper. I've done the A-Line, The Flared and The Pegged Skirt with Gathers. I want to make the Pegged Skirt with a Cowl Yoke pretty soon.

So here is the 101 on Pattern Drafting for you all.

Also the good news for today is that I received my labels from Taiwan! So that's pretty great. I'm going to practice for sewing so that my quality is good and my label will be on a high standard garment.

Au Revoir~
